23rd European Trade Fair
REHAB 2025
Topic areas
Marketplace Cerebral & Neurological Rehabilitation
Serious damage to the brain, caused by craniocerebral injuries, stroke or illnesses of the central nervous system, raise countless questions. Which areas of the brain have been affected? Are any functional disabilities reversible? Which therapies are best suitable and what is the forecast?
For those affected and their relatives, everything changes from one second to the next after an accident or a cerebral haemorrhage. And for doctors, therapists and carers, each patient represents a new challenge. In the meantime, medical research and technical options for rehabilitation continue to progress.
Focus on stroke, brain injuries and neurological rehabilitation
The marketplace Cerebral & Neurological Rehabilitation deals with the questions which concern people with brain damage and their relatives, and it deals with the support options for the recovery of those affected. The topical emphases of the marketplace are stroke, brain injuries and the neurological rehabilitation which, with a lot of patience, can pave the way back into the former life.
Marketplace Homecare & Nursing
Many people in need of care, and their families, want nursing to be offered in the home. How can qualified outpatient nursing and coordinated home intensive care be provided? How can relatives help and how can they be supported in providing care at home? What funding options are there, and what rights to funding do individual patients have?
The marketplace Homecare and Nursing presents the wide variety of aids and support on offer, which are available to everyone involved in home care. As well as the focus on specific practical matters, it also looks at the future of nursing and the technical progress that has been made in facilitating greater autonomy and a better quality of life for people in need of care.
Marketplace Mobility & Daily Living Aids
These aids help to master every-day life independently, offer more security, support therapies and help to prevent secondary damages while providing significant relief to carers as well: Daily living aids for restricted people are indispensable in many areas.
Wheelchairs and walking aids are two important emphases at the marketplace Mobility & Daily Living Aids. Notable industry companies as well as small, specialised providers will present their various models at REHAB. Users will be able to test-drive several devices on a test track with different floor conditions to find out whether their individual needs will be met.
Orthopaedic aids, communication and transfer aids
Another focal point of the marketplace Mobility & Daily Living Aids are orthopaedic aids which can compensate for physical disabilities and enable increased self-reliance. The current developments regarding communication aids for people with functional restrictions represent yet another exciting topic. For carers especially, transfer and lifting aids will be of interest as they significantly facilitate the care for disabled people in need of care on a daily level.
The latest achievements in the field of rehabilitation robotics for people with paralysis, such as exoskeletons, are very promising.
Marketplace Therapy & Pratice
People with physical and mental disabilities can take advantage of many therapies and rehabilitation offers which may reduce their symptoms and promote their recovery. Especially hospitals with outpatient and stationary centres for medical care for the disabled and specialised rehabilitation centres can meet the needs of people with disabilities. In addition to modern and customised treatment methods, suitable therapy devices are also crucial to possible restore lost functions and abilities.
The marketplace Therapy & Practice at REHAB offers visitors the opportunity of gathering information about the most important forms of therapy and aids. Devices for motion therapy are one of the most important cornerstones. Providers and manufacturers will introduce themselves and are available for discussion with interested parties from therapeutic practice, hospitals and institutions for rehabilitation as well as with patients, relatives and representatives of self-help organisation.
Many hospitals are not yet adequately prepared for treating handicapped people or patients with serious multiple disabilities. REHAB will be the platform to discuss that as well as related topics, such as structural requirements, additional needs for time, care and assistance as well as financing options for a better care of disabled people in hospital.
Marketplace barrier-free Building & Living
For many people in old age or with disabilities, barrier-free access is an essential requirement for safe, comfortable living in their own home. While for new buildings, all the necessary measures can be planned in advance, subsequent retrofitting is often complicated. A knowledge of the technical possibilities available and of the statutory requirements, as well as advice from experts, help with the planning and implementation of individual building and conversion projects.
The marketplace barrier-free Building & Living has four core themes: kitchen, bathroom, lift solutions and active assisted living (AAL).
Safety and rapid assistance in an emergency have until now been the most important goal of smart technologies for the elderly and people with chronic illnesses or disabilities. However, the rapid gains in technological progress now mean that much more can be offered than portable emergency call systems.
Marketplace Child and Youth Rehabilitation
Movement promotes the physical and mental development of the child. It can be trained in many ways and adjusted to the individual conditions and possibilities. Safety plays an important role during this process. At REHAB, parents, carers and attendants will find an extensive selection of devices which contribute to increased mobility, ensure safety and make every-day life with disabled children easier.
The focal points of the marketplace Child Youth Rehabilitation include not only children’s aids and walking frames but also specific rehabilitation options for children and adolescents with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Parents and children, doctors in children’s and youth medicine, psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, care experts, representatives of patient organisations and social insurance carriers - all will come together at REHAB to gather information, exchange views and experiences and jointly search for promising solutions.
Marketplace Self-Help
By bringing together people in similar situations, these support groups make an active contribution to improving not only the daily lives of individuals, but also the societal parameters for living with a disability or a chronic condition.
At REHAB, individuals with a disability or a chronic condition and their families will find competent contact persons from a variety of self-help organisations. The Landesarbeitsgemeinschaft Selbsthilfe behinderter Menschen Baden-Württemberg e.V. (LAG SELBSTHILFE – Baden-Württemberg self-help association for disabled persons) is organising a joint stand for health-related self-help organisations. These “experts through personal experience” will give helpful information, provide the names of local contact persons, and invite visitors to share their experiences.
Marketplace Active Rehabilitation
At the Active Rehabilitation marketplace, specialist manufacturers present their latest wheelchair models for maximum mobility and independence while shopping in town, travelling, in nature, on a sports ground or on the race track. Visitors can receive detailed, individual advice on the technical features and movement qualities, designs and prices for all the wheelchairs. This also applies to the wide range of accessories on offer, which enable further individual adaptations to users’ own needs.
For test rides, there is a test course, which offers different challenges to the wheelchair, the driver and the accompanying person with different ground conditions and bumpy areas. The selected active wheelchairs, handbikes, sports and racing wheelchairs can also be put through their paces under real-life conditions.
Marketplace Car & Transport
Numerous manufacturers and car converters will present their innovations and demonstrate the variety of opportunities for individual adjustments and technical refittings, from fold-up steps to lift systems and steering aids, through to fully converted hi-tech vehicles, which enable people with the severest disabilities to travel by car. An additional topic is the transportation of wheelchairs by car, whether on the rear seat, in the boot or stowing space or on the car roof.
On the open-air site of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre, visitors can also take test drives with different vehicle models, and gain an impression of their practical use in everyday life, and the degree of safety and comfort provided by the solutions on offer.
Marketplace Education & Careers
At the marketplace Education & Careers, inclusion in the world of work is a key topic. People with disabilities have a right to participate in the world of work, and should be given equal opportunities to fully use their potential.
Specifically, this can mean: which training and employment opportunities are available to people with disabilities or chronic illnesses? What should a disabled-access workplace look like, and what aids are available? How can people be re-integrated into their old place of work after an illness, and what changes are needed on both sides? If re-integration is not possible, what alternatives are available? Where can people with a handicap get advice, and what financial assistance options are available?
Health and nursing have a future
Visitors who are interested in receiving training or further training in the health sector or the nursing sector can also gain valuable insights and make contacts at one of the largest specialist trade fairs for rehabilitation, therapy, nursing and inclusion.
Marketplace Leisure & Travel
For travellers with physical disabilities or in a wheelchair, barrier-free access is the most important requirement for an enjoyable, trouble-free holiday. The same applies to travel by car, train and plane, as well as to accommodation, leisure facilities and attractions. As well as suitable travel offers, REHAB also offers a comprehensive overview at the marketplace Leisure & Travel of technical aids that help people with disabilities, the elderly and their relatives to enjoy leisure activities, and which make travelling with a handicap easier.
It is important to clarify your own individual needs in advance. For all leisure and travel plans, we recommend precisely defining your personal needs, obtaining advice from specialist travel operators and as far as possible, talking to other travellers who have already gained experience of conditions at the place of destination. REHAB is the ideal meeting point for getting to know the right people to talk to.
