High-calibre therapist congress CON.THERA with a focus on neurorehabilitation brings professional groups together on an interdisciplinary basis

Karlsruhe, 10 December 2024 - Compact, effective and practical: with a focus on neurorehabilitation, the interdisciplinary therapist congress CON.THERA offers professionals from the fields of occupational and physiotherapy, speech therapy as well as rehabilitation and orthopaedic technology a three-day training programme. Participants will hear 22 renowned experts from research and practice and have a wide range of opportunities to exchange ideas and network with colleagues and other professionals. A total of six modules can be attended on the topics of ‘Neurorehabilitation today’, ‘Parkinson's update’, ‘Dementia and functional disorders’, ‘Paediatrics: compact knowledge’ and ‘New perspectives in neurorehabilitation’. For the first time, the Association for Physiotherapy - Association for the Physiotherapeutic Professions (VPT) e.V. will be organising an additional thematic block on the topic of ‘Palliative Care’. The congress will take place parallel to the 23rd European Trade Fair for Rehabilitation, Therapy, Care and Inclusion (REHAB) in the Conference Centre of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre. Compact training programme with outstanding speakers

The aim of the Neuroreha Congress is to promote the quality of patient care and the integration of the professional groups involved in therapeutic care. Outstanding, nationally renowned experts such as Prof Liepert (Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach), Prof Klaus Jahn (LMU Munich) and Dr Kristina Müller (St. Mauritius Therapieklinik) have been recruited for the event.

The Lamprecht Fobis team, led by Sabine and Hans Lamprecht, is responsible for the content concept. ‘At CON.THERA, participants can feel and experience the power of interdisciplinary collaboration! This is because it brings together specialists from different disciplines to share innovative approaches, current research and practical solutions in the field of neurorehabilitation. It not only offers the opportunity to expand your network, but also to benefit from new impulses for your therapeutic work. In conjunction with REHAB Karlsruhe, where the latest aids can be seen, the event is particularly valuable for compact and expert training.’

Diverse, interprofessional topics

The first module ‘Neurorehabilitation today’ deals with current developments in motor neurorehabilitation, gait rehabilitation, an update on multiple sclerosis and the use of botulinum toxin in neurorehabilitation. The second module provides ‘Updates on Parkinson's disease, dementia and functional disorders’. The third module focuses on ‘Paediatrics: compact knowledge’ and covers topics such as the treatment of speech development disorders and strokes in children and adolescents. The final two modules open up ‘New perspectives in neurorehabilitation’, for example with regard to reflex-based electrotherapy, epidural spinal cord stimulation, gait therapy for paraplegia and surgical interventions in neurorehabilitation.

New partner VPT with palliative care theme block

The ‘Palliative Care’ themed block initiated and designed by the Association for Physiotherapy starts with a panel discussion on the topic of ‘Rehabilitation at the end of life: (no) contradiction? Why therapeutic professions are essential at the end of life’. The other presentations will be dedicated to topics such as challenging conversations and decision-making in the terminal phase of life. ‘The VPT's participation in the CON.THERA congress underlines our commitment to strengthening the importance of physiotherapy in interprofessional contexts such as palliative care. The professional exchange and practice-relevant synergies that arise here provide valuable impetus and help to further develop skills and improve patient care in the long term,’ says Matthias Grötzinger, VPT specialist group leader for neurology, paediatrics, geriatrics, palliative medicine, psychology and psychiatry.

Beate Frères, Head of Own Exhibitions at Messe Karlsruhe, adds: ‘The involvement of the Association for Physiotherapy within our therapist congress brings a valuable expansion of the thematic spectrum. With the expertise and network of such professional associations, we can offer REHAB and CON.THERA an even more comprehensive platform for such a central, interdisciplinary exchange and sustainably strengthen our medical-therapeutic field of expertise.’

New CON.THERA exhibition and REHAB Karlsruhe deepen expertise

During the breaks, a specific accompanying exhibition will enable participants to deepen their specialist knowledge practically and in dialogue with exhibiting providers from the fields of therapy, pharmaceuticals and software. At the same time, REHAB Karlsruhe, one of the world's leading trade fairs for rehabilitation, therapy, care and inclusion, will showcase the latest trends and aids as well as therapy equipment in three barrier-free exhibition halls. This opportunity in particular, in combination with the congress, creates added value for participants to expand their knowledge in a targeted manner and thus sustainably improve individual treatment approaches and patient care. Annika Gehrmeyer, Team Leader Medicine & Health, emphasises: ‘The CON.THERA Congress offers the ideal opportunity to get up to date with the latest treatment concepts for patients with neurological disorders in the shortest possible time and at the same time gain valuable inspiration for everyday professional life at the REHAB trade fair. Personal encounters with experts and the high-calibre presentations make this congress an indispensable event for all those who want to be at the forefront of neurorehabilitation.’
